LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity Projects

LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental and nature conservation projects throughout the EU. The general objective of LIFE is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental policy and legislation by co-financing pilot or demonstration projects with European added value. Since 1992, LIFE has co-financed some 4 000 projects, contributing approximately €3.1 billion to the protection of the environment.

The new LIFE Regulation was published on 20 December 2013. The Regulation establishes the Environment and Climate Action sub-programmes of the LIFE Programme for the next funding period, 2014–2020.

From the LIFE web site you can:

• consult the LIFE Nature thematic publications which highlight particularly successful projects on specific topics such as wetlands, grasslands, forests, marine, birds, plants, invasive alien species, military sites or communicating Natura 2000.
• consult the thematic pages dedicated to Nature and Biodiversity, and to the Environment which provides information on the recent and on-going projects in each theme, grouped by sub theme (i.e. Nature and Biodiversity projects are divided into biodiversity issues, habitats, management tools, and species; Environment projects are divided into air and noise, climate change – energy, environmental management, industry – production, information – communication, land-use and planning, risk management, services and trade, waste, and water).
• consult the LIFE project database, which contains detailed information on every LIFE project and allows you to search by various parameters (e.g. country, year, theme, keyword, species, habitats or Natura 2000 site…).
• consult the newsletter LIFEnews, which is issued every month and features information on the LIFE programme, presents successful projects and identifies events and publications linked to the programme.
